US companies are hoarding a record pile of cash

They hold $1.73 trillion in cash overseas (paywall), $439 billion of it with Apple, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, and Pfizer. The White House’s plan to encourage them to repatriate income faces several hurdles. Apple manages it cash via asecretive fund based in Nevada.
